Over the years we've made many friends and, by the very nature of the team, we have many ex-members who've gone on to other things in the folk world. Here's a selection:

Berkshire Bedlam

Chippenham Folk Festival

 

Our 'home' festival.  NYFTE are regulars at Chippenham. The festival has been very supportive of NYFTE. We think they are great!

DERT

 

Dance England Rapper Tournament, a favourite event for NYFTE where teams have competed with considerable success in both the DERT and DERTy competitions.

The English Folk Dance & Song Society

Evergreen

 

A new folk duo from the South of England, created by ex-members of NYFTE.

Fool's Gambit

A young, energetic Cotswold Morris side formed in 2010 and featuring a number of ex-NYFTE members (and even some current ones at times).

Gog Magog

 

Cambridge based Molly dance group, known for their high energy, brightly coloured performances.

Halsway Manor

 

Halsway Manor – National Centre for Folk Arts is a registered charity set up to promote and support the practice of the traditional folk arts, especially those practised in England. 

This includes traditional folk dance, folk music, song, folklore, storytelling, arts and crafts.  It is the only residential centre in the world concentrating on the varied folk heritage of England. For over 60 years Halsway Manor has hosted unique experiences and inspired thousands of people to experience folk dance, song, music and art.

 

IVFDF 2025

The only student based folk festival that circulates around Universities, creating a unique atmosphere and a weekend of dancing, music and more dancing. The 2025 festival will be hosted by Sheffield University. IVFDF has become a key event for NYFTE members, although we rarely appear there as a team.

The Morris Federation

The UK's larges association of Morris and traditional dance teams.

We are members of the Morris Federation.

New Roots at St Albans

 

An opportunity for young musicians (under 25) to play for festival and folk club organisers, with a view to getting a chance to play at their events. 

 

 Out of Hand

 

Out of Hand is a ceilidh band made up from former members of NYFTE

The Knots of May

 

Two of the Knots of May, a women's North West style morris team from Lewes in Sussex who specialise in Garland dancing, came to our February training weekend in 2026 and delivered an excellent Garland workshop which gave us what we needed to develop our new Garland dance "Elsie Marley Garland".

The Outside Capering Crew

 

The Crew perform exciting & funny dances to a high standard, and the Bacca Pipes dance performed by NYFTE was inspired by their version. There is a strong NYFTE presence in the team.

Pecsaetan

 

A Sheffield based women's Cotswold side, with a number of ex-NYFTE members and some current committee members as dancers. 

Rag Morris

 

A University of Bristol based morris side, with a number of ex-NYFTE members. 

Sidmouth Folk Festival

 

An internationally renowned folk festival which hosted NYFTE in 2024. 

The Shropshire Bedlams and Martha Rhoden's Tuppeny Dish

 

Border Morris side from, ummm, Shropshire.

Somerset Morris

 

Women's Cotswold side based around Bristol and Bath. Somerset Morris have been instrumental in teaching NYFTE our stave dance. 

Warwick Folk Festival

 

One of the festivals at which NYFTE has appeared on multiple ocassions.

Webfeet

 

A wonderful resource for folk dance and music on the internet

Whitby Folk Week

 

NYFTE have appeared at this festival several times over the years, the last time in 2019.

The dates for NYFTE performances have been released, and include appearances at Chippenham, Ossett Beer Cart, FolkLincs and White Horse Folk Festivals, with a season finale in Sheffield. Watch the News page for more information.

NYFTE took Sidmouth Folk Festival by storm, performing over the first weekend. Current and past members of the team also took part in many other events, from calling, the John Gasson Jig Competition and the Eye on the Future concert.
