Welcome to NYFTE!
The National Youth Folklore Troupe of England (NYFTE - pronounced "Nifty"), is a talented group of young people aged 10 – 18 with a passion for traditional music, song and dance. The group, whose members represent all the regions within England, come together in the spring to put together their repertoire for that year, and then travel to locations across England performing at events in a variety of ways, including ceilidhs, displays and concerts. The repertoire represents many English traditions, some popular and some less well known.
2023 has been an exciting and busy year. Over the winter we held a series of rapper workshops which culminated with three NYFTE rapper teams competing successfully in DERT / DERTy 2023 (for the results see here). Our Spring concert was hosted in Shirehampton (Bristol), providing the first opportunity to see our 2023 NYFTE repertoire, including new dance styles (such as stave dancing) and debut performances of music written / arranged by team members. After this, we performed at Upton-upon-Severn, Chippenham, St Alban’s and Bromyard Folk Festivals, Buxton Day of Dance and ran our own ceilidh (the 'NYFTE and Friends' ceilidh) in Bakewell Town Hall.
It was with great sadness that we said good bye to 4 team members at Bromyard. We wish them well in the future.
2024 already promises to be a busy year, with workshops, festivals and other events to look forward to.
